What types of projects does Despard Contracting take on?
We deliver full-scope civil construction and site development for municipal, residential, and commercial projects across Vancouver Island and beyond. That includes subdivision and site servicing, roadworks and frontage improvements, underground utilities, drainage and stormwater management, bulk earthworks, and smaller residential civil work like driveways, grading, and drainage upgrades. Where do you work?
We’re based on Vancouver Island and primarily serve Greater Victoria, the Saanich Peninsula, and surrounding communities, with the capacity to take on work elsewhere on the Island when it’s a good fit. For projects outside this area, we’re happy to discuss scope and feasibility.
-
Do you work directly with municipalities?
Yes. We have experience delivering municipal and public infrastructure projects, including roadworks, underground utilities, and service tie-ins. We understand municipal standards, permitting requirements, inspection processes, and the importance of safety, accountability, and clear documentation on public projects.
-
How do you manage the schedule and keep projects on track?
We plan each job with the full project lifecycle in mind, looking at access, sequencing, dependencies, and future phases. We build a realistic schedule, coordinate with other trades, and communicate early if conditions change.
-
What is your approach to safety?
Safety is our priority. We follow a documented safety program, conduct regular toolbox talks, and ensure our crew is trained and equipped for the work they’re doing. We maintain safe, orderly sites and work closely with owners and other trades to manage shared risks, especially in public environments.
-
Can you help with permitting and coordination with the City or District?
Yes. For many projects, we can assist with municipal coordination, especially for residential drainage, frontage, and service tie-in work. We’ll let you know what permits or approvals are required, what information is needed, and where we can support you in dealing with the City or District.

How do I get started with Despard?
The best first step is to get in touch with your project details: location, timelines, and any known constraints. From there, we can determine fit, outline next steps, and, if appropriate, move into estimating and scheduling.
